La Grange Passes Milestone In Pandemic
One out of 10 people in town have been infected with the coronavirus at some point.
LA GRANGE, IL — As of this last week, 10 percent of the population of La Grange and La Grange Highlands has now been infected with the coronavirus at some point during the pandemic.
As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had seen 1,912 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 30 from a week before, or a 1.6 percent increase. That was up from the previous week's 0.9 percent hike.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the local number of recorded coronavirus-related deaths stayed the same in the last week, at 31. The latest death was Feb 13. All the local deaths have been those who were 61 or older, according to the medical examiner.

The mortality rate among La Grange cases is 1.6 percent. About a tenth of 1 percent of the local population has died from the virus.

As of Sunday, La Grange had 100 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning, worse than its surveyed neighbors. The figure compares to 71 in Darien, 72.5 in La Grange Park, 76.2 in Western Springs, 79.4 in Hinsdale, 80.5 in DuPage County, 82.7 in Elmhurst, 87.1 in Clarendon Hills, 88.9 in suburban Cook County and 93.4 in Burr Ridge.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,220,432, up 1.1 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 21,059 state residents.
Nationally, 29.5 million people have caught the virus, up 1.3 percent from the week before. A total of 538,261 people have died from the virus in the United States.
