La Grange Sees Drop In New Virus Cases: County
The village experiences one more coronavirus death.
LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange saw a drop last week in the percentage increase in new coronavirus cases, according to the Cook County Public Health Department.
As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had seen 1,819 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 23 from a week before, or a 1.3 percent increase. That was down from 2 percent a week earlier. In the few weeks before that, the increases ranged from 1 percent to 6.4 percent.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the local number of recorded coronavirus-related deaths increased to one in the last week, to 31. The latest death was Feb 13. All the local deaths have been those who were 61 or older, according to the medical examiner.

The mortality rate among La Grange cases is 1.7 percent. Of the entire population of La Grange and La Grange Highlands, 9.5 percent have been infected with the coronavirus. About a tenth of 1 percent of the population have died from the virus.

As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had 95.2 coronavirus cases per thousand people, the worst of its surveyed neighbors. The figure compares to 68.6 in Darien, 68.7 in La Grange Park, 71.7 in Western Springs, 75 in Hinsdale, 77.1 in DuPage County, 78.2 in Elmhurst, 81 in Clarendon Hills, 85.7 in suburban Cook County and 90.4 in Burr Ridge.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,172,824, up .9 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 20,234 state residents.
Nationally, 27.8 million people have caught the virus, up 1.4 percent from the week before. A total of 494,008 people have died from the virus in the United States.
