La Grange Sees Hike In New Virus Cases: County
No new coronavirus deaths are reported in more than a month in La Grange, agency says.
LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange experienced an increase in the rate of coronavirus cases over the last week, according to the Cook County Public Health Department.
As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had seen 1,965 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 53 from a week before, or a 2.8 percent increase. That was up from the previous week's 1.6 percent hike.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the local number of recorded coronavirus-related deaths stayed the same in the last week, at 31. The latest death was Feb 13. All the local deaths have been those who were 61 or older, according to the medical examiner.

The mortality rate among La Grange cases is 1.6 percent. About a tenth of 1 percent of the local population has died from the virus.

As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had 102.8 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning, the worst among its surveyed neighbors. The figure compares to 71.8 in Darien, 74.4 in La Grange Park, 78.2 in Western Springs, 81.3 in DuPage County, 81.9 in Hinsdale, 83.8 in Elmhurst, 88.9 in Clarendon Hills, 90 in suburban Cook County and 94.6 in Burr Ridge.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,232,900, up 1 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 21,203 state residents.
Nationally, 29.9 million people have caught the virus, up 1.2 percent from the week before. A total of 543,975 people have died from the virus in the United States.
