La Grange Sees Increase in Virus Rate: County
The community experiences one more coronavirus death in the last week.
LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange saw an increase in its coronavirus rate in the last week, according to the Cook County Public Health Department.
As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had seen 2,253 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 33 from a week before, or a 1.5 percent increase. That was up from the previous week's 0.9 percent hike.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the local number of recorded coronavirus-related deaths increased by one in the last week, to 32. The latest deaths were May 14 and Feb. 13. All the local deaths have been those who were 61 or older, according to the medical examiner.

The mortality rate among La Grange cases is 1.4 percent. About a tenth of 1 percent of the local population has died from the virus.

The figure compares to 80.7 in Darien, 85.3 in La Grange Park, 90.1 in DuPage County, 92.4 in Hinsdale, 93.4 in Elmhurst, 94.4 in Western Springs, 99.1 in Clarendon Hills, 100.8 in suburban Cook County and 103.7 in Burr Ridge.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,375,808, up 0.9 percent from a week earlier. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 22,623.
Nationally, 32.9 million people have caught the virus, up 0.7 percent from the week before. A total of 586,535 people have died from the virus in the United States.
