La Grange Sees New Low In Virus Rate Hike: County

No coronavirus deaths in the community are reported in more than a month.

LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange's percentage increase in coronavirus cases reached a new low last week, according to the Cook County Public Health Department.

As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had seen 1,882 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 17 from a week before, or a nine-tenths of 1 percent increase. That was down from 1 percent the week before.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the local number of recorded coronavirus-related deaths stayed the same in the last week, at 31. The latest death was Feb 13. All the local deaths have been those who were 61 or older, according to the medical examiner.

The mortality rate among La Grange cases is 1.6 percent. Of the entire population of La Grange and La Grange Highlands, 9.8 percent have been infected with the coronavirus. About a tenth of 1 percent of the population have died from the virus.

As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had 98.5 coronavirus cases per thousand people, worse than its surveyed neighbors. The figure compares to 70.3 in Darien, 70.8 in La Grange Park, 74.3 in Western Springs, 77.6 in Hinsdale, 79.5 in DuPage County, 80.7 in Elmhurst, 85.1 in Clarendon Hills, 88 in suburban Cook County and 92.3 in Burr Ridge.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,207,847, up seven-tenths of 1 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 20,924 state residents.

Nationally, 29.2 million people have caught the virus, up 1.6 percent from the week before. A total of 530,693 people have died from the virus in the United States.
