La Grange Virus Rate Up Slightly In Last Week: County
The number of coronavirus deaths in La Grange has remained the same since mid-February.
LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange's percentage increase in coronavirus cases was up slightly in the last week, according to the Cook County Public Health Department.
As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had seen 2,201 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 36 from a week before, or a 1.7 percent increase. That was slightly up from the previous week's 1.5 percent hike.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the local number of recorded coronavirus-related deaths stayed the same in the last week, at 31. The latest death was Feb 13. All the local deaths have been those who were 61 or older, according to the medical examiner.

The mortality rate among La Grange cases is 1.4 percent. About a tenth of 1 percent of the local population has died from the virus.

As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had 115.2 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning, the worst among its surveyed neighbors. The figure compares to 79.7 in Darien, 82.6 in La Grange Park, 89.4 in DuPage County, 89.8 in Western Springs, 91.2 in Hinsdale, 92.4 in Elmhurst, 97.5 in Clarendon Hills, 99 in suburban Cook County and 102.1 in Burr Ridge.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,354,967, up 1.3 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 22,223 state residents.
Nationally, 32.4 million people have caught the virus, up 0.9 percent from the week before. A total of 577,857 people have died from the virus in the United States.
