The following was submitted by the La Grange Police Department:

On Tuesday, May 14, 2013, and Tuesday, May 21, 2013, officers from several agencies along the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, including officers from the LaGrange Police Department, will participate in the educational and enforcement campaign called “Police on Board for Rail Safety.”  The reality is that every day, people risk their lives to “beat the train” even though the signals and gates warn them to stop.  Our participation in this campaign is done as a reminder that waiting one minute for a train to pass is not too great of an inconvenience to save your life.

The campaign begins on Tuesday, May 14, 2013.  Officers from the LaGrange Police Department will be assigned to the Stone Avenue and Burlington Avenue train stations from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. in order to distribute educational material to commuters regarding pedestrian safety/duties at railroad grade crossings.
