Lowest Virus Case Hike In La Grange Since Crisis Began: County

Overall, La Grange has more coronavirus cases per capita than suburban Cook as a whole.

LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange saw the lowest weekly percentage increase in new coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the Cook County Public Health Department.

As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had seen 1,761 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 17 from a week before, or a 1 percent increase, according to the Cook County Public Health Department. The previous weeks were, chronologically, 4.6 percent, 6.4 percent, 3.4 percent, 2.5 percent and 1.9 percent.

The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the local number of coronavirus-related deaths stayed the same in the last week, at 30. The latest death was Jan. 28. All the local deaths have been those who were 62 or older, according to the medical examiner.

The mortality rate among La Grange cases is 1.7 percent. Of the entire population of La Grange and La Grange Highlands, 9.2 percent have been infected with the coronavirus. About a tenth of 1 percent of the population have died from the virus.

As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had 92.1 coronavirus cases per thousand people, the worst among its surveyed neighbors. The figure compares to 66.6 in Darien, 66.7 in La Grange Park, 68.6 in Western Springs, 72.8 in Hinsdale, 75.3 in DuPage County, 76.6 in Elmhurst, 79.4 in Clarendon Hills, 83.5 in suburban Cook County and 87.4 in Burr Ridge.
