LT Robotics Teams Advance To State Competition

Four Lyons Township High School Robotics teams recently learned that they earned spots in the upcoming state tournament. Peach Mango, C of Spades, The Juice Bots and Baby Drivers qualified and will take part in the 2021 Illinois Vex Robotics Competition State Championship in-person match-ups Saturday, April 3, at Illinois State University.

Robotics sponsor Blake Sauders is extremely proud of all the LT teams who have worked so hard under such different circumstances this year. “We are going into state competition at peak performance. At our most recent tournament, all LT teams put up new personal best records,” Sauders said.

Teams consist of 3-6 students and each student has a different role. The two main roles are builder and coder. The builders construct the actual robot and troubleshoot any mechanical problems that might happen. The coders create custom actions for the robot to do in order to score points with speed and accuracy. Students have been building their robots and coding them for months when the new competition was released.
