Lyons Township Launches First-Ever Competitive Cheer Squad

The school is making history.

Who said cheerleaders weren’t athletes on the same level as the teams they support?

Lyons Township High School is launching a competitive cheerleading program this fall that will not only cheer for the football, basketball and other LTHS athletic teams, but compete against other Illinois squads at a varsity level.

Squad members will require strong athletic abilities, a press release from the school states, including the ability to do jumps, stunts and sharp motion placements. A strong voice and positive attitude are also requirements. The team will practice 4-5 times a week, attend varsity football and basketball games, participate in spirit events and compete in up to six weekend competitions.
