More Than 50 La Grange Runners Took Part in the Chicago Marathon

They came from La Grange, La Grange Park and La Grange Highlands.

CHICAGO, IL — Between La Grange, La Grange Park and La Grange Highlands, the La Grange area had almost 50 runners compete Sunday in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. The 26.2-mile course took runners through 29 Chicago neighborhoods that went all the way north to Wrigley Field and south to US Cellular Field.

Geof Brown, 52, was the first La Grange Park resident to finish the race at a time of 3:18:09, according to unofficial Chicago Marathon results. He finished 2,701st overall, 2,347th in his gender and 128th in his 50-54 age division.

Close behind Brown was Todd Haenle, who finished in 3:37:50 and placed 703rd in his 35-39 age group.

Here are some of La Grange's other fastest finishers:

  • Sara Winfrey, 22 (20-24 age division), 3:40:00
  • Karyn Denten, 49 (45-49 age division), 3:45:37
  • Tim Albores, 42 (40-44 age division), 3:46:55
  • Doug Maccallum, 37 (35-39 age division), 3:49:19
  • Martin Kalas, 41 (40-44 age division), 3:51:45

Elite runners from Kenya dominated the race. Kenyan Abel Kirui finished first with a time of 2:11:22, beating out last year’s champion and fellow Kenyan Dickson Chum in the final mile. Florence Kiplagat, 29, was the top female finisher clocking in at 2:22:31. Results are still unofficial.
