Smoke, Carbon Monoxide Alarm Recall Could Pose Threat to La Grange Families
La Grange Park officials are urging residents to check all of their smoke alarms and replace them entirely if needed.
The La Grange Park Fire and Building Departments announced Monday there has been a recall for a smoke alarm that could be found in nearby residents’ homes.
The alarms, known more specifically as Kidde NightHawk combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, were manufactured between June of 2004 and December of 2010. It was recently discovered that after seven years of use, when the alarm chirps to signify its batteries need to be replaced and residents do so, it will fall silent like any alarm would, leading users to believe it’s working when, in fact, it isn’t.
Residents, then, would not be alerted if a fire or carbon monoxide leak was taking place in their houses.
