10-Year-Old Lake Forest Mansion Asks Nearly $5 Million

Listed at over $2 million above its assessed value, this contemporary home would Lake Forest's priciest of 2019 if its asking price was met.

LAKE FOREST, IL — An 11,000-square-foot contemporary Lake Forest mansion was listed for the first time this month for nearly $5 million. The two-story stucco home was built on a private cul-de-sac in 2009 on 1.3 acres between Lake Forest College and Lake Michigan.

The home's design mixes the traditional feel of brick chimneys and high, vaulted ceilings, with modern walls of black-framed glass and a metal roof. The home features geothermal heating and is wired with "smart" home technology, according to its listing.

Its main level has an open floor plan, with its multi-story foyer connecting two twin structures and including staircases upstairs and down to a finished lower level. The home is designed with a in-law or guest suite with its own kitchen and laundry room, its listing said.

They purchased the property for $628,000 in 1999, a decade before the home was built, and put it on the market on July 1 with an asking price of $4,950,000 — tied for the eighth-priciest in the city.

According to the Lake County Assessor's Office, the property's estimated market value is $2,815,554. Its most recent annual property tax bill was nearly $50,000.
