Lake Forest Mansion Just Sold For $6.4 Million, Most Expensive Since 2005

LAKE FOREST, IL — At $6.4 million, this Lake Forest mansion has just become the most expensive home sold in town in more than a decade. About three weeks after being listed publicly with an asking price of $7.9 million in July, the epic property went under contract. The deal closed on Sept. 29.

According to Crain's Chicago Business, the home was designed by architect Erik T. Johnson for Mike and Linda Keefe and their blended family of eight, who are now grown. Mike, chairman of retail inventory liquidation company Hilco Merchant Resources of Northbrook, told Crain's the couple described the home to be "comfortable for everyone" with the "modern feeling of a home in the city."

The $6.4 million closing price is the highest in Lake Forest since 2005, when a historic mansion on Lake Road was sold for $9.5 million, according to Crain's.

The Onwentsia Road mansion sits on nearly three acres. According to its listing, it took three years of construction to build the 2010 home using stone from the same quarry that supplies the Vatican. There's a three-story master suite, opening on to expansive patios and terraces. It offers a California-style, coastal feel, with outdoor spaces including a huge pool, spa and an outdoor kitchen and bar area. Plus, it came with a professional-level gym and an amazing wine cellar and tasting area.

The new buyers have yet to be identified in public records, but one of the property's listing agents told Crain's the buyer is moving in from outside the Chicago area.
