6 More Lake Forest Area Students Named National Merit Scholars
High school students from Lake Forest High School and Lake Forest Academy are among the 2021 National Merit scholarship winners.

LAKE FOREST, IL — More than a half-dozen seniors from local high schools have been named National Merit scholars so far this year.
They include five students from Lake Forest High School and two from Lake Forest Academy. Three were among the 2,500 students nationwide selected to receive $2,500 cash scholarships to the institutions of their choice.
Another three were among the first approximately 3,100 winners of scholarships sponsored by colleges, the remaining 900 of whom will be notified next month. And one was awarded a corporate-sponsored scholarship.

Out of the 1.5 million students who applied for the scholarship nationwide through the 2019 preliminary SAT and the 16,000 who qualified as finalists, about 7,500 will receive scholarships for their undergraduate education from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, the Evanston-based nonprofit that established the program in 1955.
The following students from local schools have been named winners so far:

Daisy J. Connery, of Lake Forest and Lake Forest High School, has a probable career field of finance and was awarded a college-sponsored scholarship to the University of Southern California.
Justin Hwang, of Northbrook and Lake Forest Academy, has a probable career field of medicine and was awarded a college-sponsored scholarship to Emory University.
Colin C. Kingsley, of Lake Forest and Lake Forest High School, has a probable career field of computer science and was awarded a $2,500 cash scholarship, underwritten by W.W. Grainer, to the institution of his choice.
Kathryn J. Li, of Lake Bluff and Lake Forest High School, has a probable career field of medicine and was awarded a college-sponsored scholarship to the University of Chicago.
Calvin S. Osborne, of Lake Bluff and Lake Forest Academy, has a probable career field of mathematics and was awarded a $2,500 cash scholarship from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation's own funds to the institution of his choice.
Andrew L. Wehmeyer, of Lake Buff and Lake Forest High School, has a probable career field of aerospace engineering and was awarded a $2,500 cash scholarship from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation's own funds to the institution of his choice.

Last fall, eight students from Lake Forest High School and three from Lake Forest Academy were announced as National Merit scholarship semifinalists.
One LFHS senior had already been announced as a National Merit scholar, having been awarded a corporate-sponsored scholarship funded by Abbvie.
