Black Lives Matter 'Evil Entity,' Mayors 'Demonic,' Curran Says
Ex-Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, alleged Black Lives Matter is "in bed with the abortion industry."

LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Republican candidate for U.S. Senate from Illinois characterized the Black Lives Matter movement as an "evil entity," described big city mayors as "demonic," and warned of the possible secession of portions of the United States.
Mark Curran of Libertyville is running against four-term incumbent Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin, as well as Crystal Lake Libertarian Danny Malouf, Rockford Green Party candidate David Black and businessman Willie Wilson, of the Willie Wilson Party.
Curran, 57, was sheriff of Lake County, a post he first won as a Democrat in 2006 before swapping major parties two years later, until his defeat by fewer than 200 votes two years ago.

Speaking earlier this month during a remote interview with the Tazewell County Republican Party Chair Jim Rule, Curran said he has been running a largely grassroots campaign. Curran has collected less than $300,000 in campaign contributions this cycle, while his Democratic opponent has raised nearly $10 million. At the end of the third quarter, Curran had about $35,000 in cash on hand, while Durbin had $5.5 million left.
Curran said he has been unable to afford television advertisements because people who contributed money to his campaigns for sheriff were afraid to provoke a backlash from the senior senator or his supporters.

"People are really, really scared," Curran said. "And you know what I say to them? Shame on them. America could potentially be on its last breath."
Warning the country was headed in an atheistic direction, Curran claimed that people on the political left do not believe in the existence of evil, due to their permissive worldview.
"You look at socialist countries, there is no God, there is no place to worship. So that's where we're headed with this Marxism," Curran said. "Black Lives Matter is an evil entity. I've never supported Black Lives Matter, you know. But, they're in bed with the abortion industry and defund police and they stand for so many evil things."
The ex-sheriff and former federal prosecutor said he used to live "near the projects" on Chicago's Southwest Side and ventured into public housing to find witnesses. He tied the economic decline in East St. Louis, Durbin's hometown, to the senior Democrat's view of people of color.
"Dick Durbin has done nothing for Blacks. You go to East St. Louis, Illinois, where Dick Durbin grew up, and I would submit to you that may be the worst city in all of America. I've never seen anything like it ... that's his hometown. That's what he thinks of the Blacks and the minorities," Curran said.
Curran claimed Democrats have been covertly supporting a policy of eugenics for decades by encouraging higher rates of abortion and single parenthood among Black people.
"They destroyed the family. Look at the evil that they've engaged in. They created public housing but they wouldn't let the father be in the home to qualify for public housing, so we break up the nuclear family," Curran said.
"Then, because they're getting government checks, let's put all these Planned Parenthood facilities in the inner cities, so that the Blacks can abort at a much higher rate than any other group," he added. "Let's live out the dream of the founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger, who is an avowed racist who wanted to eliminate minorities. And the Democratic Party has done that. They've taken faith out of everything, they've destroyed everything, Blacks were strong traditional marriage supporters, they've destroyed that. They've done everything to kill the Black family."
Curran claimed Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and other big city mayors have not allowed police to be tough enough on criminals, especially during the summer's civil unrest. Curran said Lightfoot, a Logan Square resident whom he falsely claimed lives in Sauganash neighborhood, has hamstrung police and left them feeling worthless and humiliated.
"These mayors are so bad, so demonic, we gotta pray, we gotta pray that these mayors are gone, whatever it takes," he said.

Greg Bales, Durbin's campaign manager, said it appeared Curran was attempting to imitate President Donald Trump. In a statement, Bales told WCBU, which first reported the candidate's remarks, that making comments like the ones Curran made about East St. Louis would have been disqualifying in the past.
"It wasn't long ago that people with more stature than Mark Curran resigned from office for saying similarly disparaging comments about Illinois communities and the people that live in them," Bales said.
At a rally Saturday in Janesville, Wisconsin, Trump acknowledged Curran, who was standing to the side of the stage.
“Mark? I heard you were here, good,” the president said. “That’s great. Good luck. I hear you’re doing well, Mark. Good luck. Great to have you. Thank you very much. Tell you what, Illinois could use a new governor.”

In his interview with the Tazewell County GOP chair, Curran ominously cautioned of a potential breakup of the United States, implying there may be some form of armed insurrection on the horizon in the near term.
"We've seen the left in the streets, we have not seen the right. And I've been down to southern Illinois and central Illinois and spent a lot of time, and their DNA is such that they ain't going down without a fight. So maybe secession of portions of this country is in our future, who knows, I don't know," Curran said.
"But I'm going to tell you this much: they're not going to go quietly in the night. They're not ready to surrender. This is their America. People died for it and their ancestors died for it," he added. "These leftists that want to destroy America and that's why they want open borders because they want people to come to this country and have no respect or appreciation for the heritage of this country — no, not in our America. Not in my America. I'll die first."
