Bridge Demolition Triggers Overnight Closure Of Route 176 Monday

Residents should expect bright lights and loud noise throughout the night.

LAKE BLUFF, IL — Village staff said the Route 176 viaduct in Lake Bluff will be closed from 10 p.m. Monday until 4 a.m. Tuesday in the first of two planned closures to allow for the replacement of a bike path bridge.

Overnight demolition will involve bright lights and loud noises, according to staff. For drivers detoured during the closure, the nearest alternative routes are Deerpath Road in Lake Forest or Buckley Road in North Chicago.

Starting Monday, Route 176 will also be intermittently reduced to a single lane of traffic between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. during construction, village staff previously announced.

The Robert McClory Bike Path in Lake Bluff is expected to remain detoured for the two months of work the bridge replacement is anticipated to require.

The 45-year-old bike path bridge is narrower than the path itself and has degraded over the decades, according to staff.

Its replacement will be wider and better accommodate the approximately 6,000 monthly users expected during summer months.

Village staff said The cost of the $308,266 product is covered by a $87,600 state grant and a cost sharing agreement between the village and county.
