Construction On Pumping Station Narrows Deerpath Road

Deerpath Road is set to be reduced to a single lane through Aug. 13 at the viaduct under Route 41.

LAKE FOREST, IL — Construction work on a new pumping station near the intersection of Route 41 and Deerpath Road enters a new phase Tuesday, city staff announced.

Deerpath Road will be reduced to one lane from the Route 41 viaduct east to Ahwahnee Lane, and temporary traffic signals will route traffic headed east and west in the single lane of traffic.

Exit ramps from Route 41 to Deerpath Road will be closed in both directions, according to city officials, while entrance ranks onto Route 41 from Deerpath will stay open.

Route 60 serves as a detour to the south, while Route 176 offers the detour to the north.

Once complete, the pump station being built at the southwest corner of Ahwahnee Lane and Deerpath Road is expected to reduce the perennial problem of flooding at the Deerpath Road viaduct. The road will also be widened by 6 feet in both directions.

Rebar installation framing are underway, with trucks expected coming and going from the site for the rest of the week.

Construction activities are scheduled to continue at the site for the rest of the summer, according to city staff, with the current traffic pattern due to remain in place through Aug. 13.

In addition to the pump station, the construction work also includes the addition of new storm sewers and two detention ponds at Deerpath Golf Course.

Construction on the $12.1 million Illinois Department of Transportation project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022.

As of last week, the project was about halfway completed, according to city staff.
