Fatal Lake Forest Crash Triggered By 'Medical Event': Coroner

Autopsy results suggest the 78-year-old motorcycle rider had a health emergency right before crashing into a parked truck, the coroner said.

State police said a biker veered onto the shoulder and rear-ended a tractor-trailer Wednesday on eastbound Interstate 94 at the Lake Forest Oasis.

WAUKEGAN, IL — The Lake County coroner said the Utah man who died Wednesday afternoon in a motorcycle crash at the Lake Forest Oasis had a medical emergency immediately before the fatal collision.

George Mayer, 78, of Milford, rode a motorcycle into the rear of a tractor-trailer as it was parked on the entrance ramp to the oasis from from inbound Interstate 94. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper and Illinois State Police.

Cooper said his office and state police are continuing to investigate, but the results of an autopsy performed Friday show a possible reason for Mayer to have rear-ended the truck.
