Ex-Chicago Bear Kyle Long Accepts Offer On Lake Forest Mansion

The French Provincial home first appeared on the market last month with an asking price of $2.65 million and an offer already pending.

LAKE FOREST, IL — Former Chicago Bears offensive lineman Kyle Long accepted an offer on the Lake Forest mansion he purchased nearly four years ago.

Long, 31, announced his retirement earlier this year following seven seasons with the Bears. The son of a Hall of Fame defensive end, Long was drafted 20th overall in 2013 and made the Pro Bowl in his first three seasons. But his next four seasons were plagued by injuries, with Long able to feature just four games in his final season.

"I was drafted a Bear and I decided to retire a Bear," he said in January in a social media post. "Not many can say that."

Long bought his first Lake Forest home, a five-bedroom Georgian, for $1.35 million after his rookie season. In December 2016, he purchased another Lake Forest property for $2.56 million, down the road from Sheridan Elementary School.

That home showed up on the market last month on the Multiple Listing Service with a note indicating that it had come under contract while on the Private Listing Network.

The two-story brick and stucco French Provincial style design was built on 1.26 acres on Crab Tree Lane in 1990, according to its listing.

It includes an outdoor pool, hot tub, patio and a fire pit, the listing said. Inside there are 14 rooms, including a library, theater, exercise room and finished basement.

According to Lake County Assessor's Office, the property's estimated 2020 market value for taxing purposes was nearly $2.47 million. Its annual property tax bill was more than $44,000 last year, records show.

Joe Douglas, the general manager of the New York Jets, last week acknowledged on a conference call that "some ideas" were thrown out during a discussion between him and Long, according to the New York Daily News.

Sources told the newspaper that Long and Douglas had discussed the player coming out of retirement, although Long has denied having any contact with the Jets.

The property's listing agent declined to comment to the Chicago Tribune's Elite Street column, which first reported the listing.
