Flash Flooding Closes Roads In Lake Forest, Lake Bluff

Route 41 is among several roads closed from heavy rains overnight.

LAKE FOREST, IL — Heavy rains closed roads Friday morning in Lake Forest and Lake Bluff, authorities said. Drivers were warned to exercise caution and not attempt to drive through standing water after flooding was reported across the north suburbs.

Deerpath Road was closed at the Route 41 viaduct, while northbound Route 41 was closed at Route 60, and may remain closed for the rest of the day, according to Lake Forest city officials. Police said two cars remained submerged at Deerpath Road and Route 41. Northbound traffic was being diverted at Route 60.

Route 41 is also closed in Lake Bluff, where the Sheridan Road viaduct and Green Bay Road south of Route 176 has also seen heavy flooding, according to police.

According to the Lake County Department of Transportation, flooding has impacted Route 41 from Route 60, Townline Road, up to Route 137, Buckley Road.

Flooding has also closed Lake Cook Road between Waukegan Road and Skokie Boulevard in Northbrook, where village officials said traffic was being re-routed through the Northbrook Court mall. The intersection of Dundee and Lee roads is closed, and residents of nearby streets should not try to drive through the water to get to Dundee Road, according to an emergency advisory from the village.

A scheduled closure of the right lane of northbound Route 41 between Deerfield Road and Park Avenue West in Highland Park is set to begin at 8 p.m. Friday and remain in place until 5 a.m. Monday, if weather permits, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Lake Forest city officials asked residents with flooded homes to contact 847-810-3682. More information on how to deal with flooding of homes and yards, as well as details about city stormwater management policies and sustainable stormwater practices, is available on a website prepared by city staff.

Update: Northbound Route 41 was opened shortly before 4:30 p.m. Friday, according to Lake Forest police.
