Foiled: Cubs All-Star Anthony Rizzo's 'Rizzo Wrap' To Go On Sale At Jewel-Osco

The limited-edition foil from Lake Forest-based Reynolds Wrap will hit Chicago-area store shelves Monday.

CHICAGO, IL — Now that the Chicago Cubs have dipped below the .500 mark after going winless during a recent West Coast road trip, fans have been wondering what's been behind the defending World Series champions' lackluster start this season. Some observers have speculated that the North Siders are still recovering from the grind of winning a title last year. Or maybe the Cubs are simply exhausted from spending as much time concentrating on sales pitches as they do on baseball pitches.

Last month, first baseman Anthony Rizzo and second baseman Ben Zobrist unveiled breakfast cerals bearing their names and likenesses. Fans can now find "RizzO's" and Zorilla Crunch on the shelves at Jewel-Osco stores around the Chicago area (retired Cubs catcher also introduced his own cereal, Grandpa Rossy Crunch, which sounds like a wrestling move). And starting next week, Rizzo will be adding another household product to his repertoire: aluminum foil. (Get Patch real-time email alerts for the latest news for Lake Forest. Like RizzO's, "Rizzo Wrap" will feature the struggling All-Star's image and name on the packaging, and it will go on sale — while supplies last, of course — beginning Monday, June 5, at Jewel-Osco stores in and around Chicago. The limited edition foil came about through a bet between Rizzo and Lake Forest-based Reynolds Wrap before the 2016 season. If the Cubs won the World Series that season, Reynolds would have to change the name of its signature product. The bet was revealed during a faux-press conference April 1, and many fans thought it was an April Fools prank. Not so, says Mike Mazza, Reynolds' brand director for foil.

“A bet’s a bet, and we’re happy to uphold our side of the deal,” he said in a statement this week. “It turns out Anthony loves cooking as much as we do, and we’re excited to be releasing a foil that both he and his fans can enjoy using for their summer grilling.”

Rizzo and the company already have teamed up to produce a series of online cooking videos this year, and Reynolds also is sponsoring the player's upcoming Cook-Off for Cancer, which is a fundraiser for the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation.
