Gorton Community Center Summer Camp Registration Opens March 10

Customize your child's summer camp experience for a summer of fun at Gorton, located in the heart of Lake Forest

Gorton Community Center offers a wide range of week-long summer camps for toddlers to teens. We focus on offering exceptional arts and culture to the community, and our summer camps embody that vision. Camps run from June to August and encompass a wide range of experiences – all taught by local, experienced professionals in our historic building in Lake Forest. Summer Camps at Gorton offer a chance for your child to learn something new, make new friends, build independence, explore talents and express his/her creativity.

The camps we offer vary week to week, so you can customize your child’s camp experience. We will be offering a lunch program again this year, so you can count on Gorton for a full-day camp experience!

“We're thrilled to offer camps at Gorton this summer,” said Libby Johnson, Program Director at Gorton. “We have worked diligently with our staff and instructors to do this safely. I know summer camp was a highlight of my childhood and it's part of my mission to do the same for this community.”

A cornerstone of Gorton’s summer camp program is Safety Town. Entering its ninth year as a summer favorite, Safety Town is an interactive safety awareness program. Two sessions are offered for two age groups:
From June 9-12, Safety Town Majors (for 5-7 year olds) will take place. Children in this camp learn about everything from stranger danger to fire safety, pet safety and more. The program is taught by certified teachers with hands-on topics led by community guest speakers as well as visits from the Lake Forest Police Department and Lake Forest Fire Department. Teen volunteers lead the children through camp every day and receive valuable training along with obtaining community service hours. Campers learn about pedestrian safety by tricycling through a miniature town complete with streets, sidewalks, buildings, stop signs, and a working traffic signal.

From August 11-13, Safety Town Commanders (for 8 to 10-year-olds) will be underway. This camp focuses on everything from gun safety to internet safety and is very interactive with lots of outdoor activities. With the help of community partners like the Lake Forest Fire Department, Lake Forest Police Department and Lake Forest Open Lands Association. This camp is dynamic and engaging, and the content is invaluable! Keep your kids safe and sign up now!
