Gorton Presents Film Produced By Lake Forest Resident
The award-winning documentary "Minding the Gap" will be shown Friday at the Gorton Center.

From Gorton Community Center: Gorton Community Center is proud to present two showings of Minding the Gap, an award- winning documentary produced by Lake Forest’s Diane Quon, on Friday, October 19 in the John and Nancy Hughes Theater. The film will be shown at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. and Quon will host a question-and-answer session following the 7 p.m. screening.
In Minding the Gap, director Bing Liu searches for correlations between his skateboarder friends’ turbulent upbringings and the complexities of modern-day masculinity. As the film unfolds, Liu captures how 23-year-old Zack’s tumultuous relationship with his girlfriend deteriorates after the birth of their son and 17-year-old Keire struggling with his racial identity as he faces new responsibilities following the death of his father. While navigating a difficult relationship between his camera, his friends, and his own past, Liu ultimately weaves a story of generational forgiveness while exploring the precarious gap between childhood and adulthood.
“I was immediately drawn to this project,” explains Quon, who saw a rough cut of the film more than two years ago. “When a story is told well, as this one is, the impact it can have is profound. It’s been so moving to see the conversations that have been started because of this film.” A Q&A with Quon will happen after the 7 p.m. show.
