Grand Ballroom, Indoor Pool With Columns In 2005-Built Mansion

This 13-year-old lakefront mansion in Lake Bluff hit the market for the first time Tuesday asking for $8.25 million.

LAKE BLUFF, IL — A Lake Bluff mansion built on a grand scale 13 years ago was listed this week for more than $8 million. The European-inspired manor sits on almost 4.5 acres of land on the northeast end of the village beside Richard Marx's David Adler-designed home in the Lakewood Estates subdivision of the Shore Acres neighborhood.

The six-bedroom, nearly 16,000-square-foot "X"-shaped manor has are more than 20 rooms, many with views of the lake, according to its listing. The home includes marble and cherry flooring throughout. There's a two-story ballroom, an indoor swimming pool with columns, a jacuzzi, and an elevator.

The home also includes a eight fireplaces, heated ceramic roof and a five-car heated garage. There are four powder rooms, three offices and two family rooms, with high ceilings throughout the home.

The property was first publicly listed Tuesday for $8.25 million. Property records indicate it has been owned since its construction by a cardiologist at an Evanston hospital and his wife.

In 2016, they paid the 10th highest property tax bill in the state. The homeowner told Crain's Chicago Business the property tax rate was "a disaster," noting his children went to private schools and the home uses well water.

"I don't know what I get for paying it," the doctor said, calling it a "tremendous bill" to pay for what he described as few services.

The land was originally part of a 73-acre estate owned by the meatpacking Armour family. Richard Marx, the owner of the family's main home, first listed the 1931 Georgian with a 21st century custom music studio attached for $18 million. The price on Marx's home has been gradually reduced over the course of several years and it is now asking less for than $9 million.

According to the Lake County Assessor's Office, the property's estimated market value is $6.25 million. It had a 2018 tax bill of more than $134,000.
