History Center Holds Inaugural Photo Contest

LAKE FOREST, IL — The History Center of Lake Forest-Lake Bluff is holding its first-ever photo contest to benefit the historical society's exhibits, programs and educational initiatives.

Participants have until Oct. 15 to submit photos in up three different categories — those that depict a sense of self, a sense of place or a sense of community.

Winners will be selected in each category and four age groups: 8-14, 15-19, 20-24 and over 65. Each will have their photographs displayed in a virtual gallery on the history center's website and, public health conditions permitting, in a gallery at its 509 E. Deerpath Road museum.

Judges include professional photographers Catlin Saville Collins, Ana Miyares and Kerri Sherman, as well as Cecilia Lanyon, co-owner of The Gallery restaurant in Lake Forest and Daria McMeans, a lecturer in art in Lake Forest College and art teacher at Evanston Township High School.

Sponsored prizes will also be awarded to winners in the 12 combinations of age groups and subject categories, according to the guidelines from the history center.

"Whether you have been taking photos for years, or just discovered portrait mode on your mobile phone, we want to see how you express your sense of self, sense of place, and/or sense of community," according to the history center's website.

The entry fee is $25 per photo, and contestants can submit one photo for each category. Significant digital alternations disqualify photos from the contest. More information and instructions on how to enter are available online from the Lake Forest-Lake Bluff History Center.
