Hit-And-Run Driver Had Nearly Twice Legal Alcohol Limit: Blotter

LAKE FOREST, IL — The following information comes from Lake Forest and Lake Bluff police and Lake County court records as a record of those arrested by police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt, and criminal charges, which represent merely accusations by the state, are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Circuit Clerk of Courts. All persons named are innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
ARRESTS
Catherine A. Witt, 36, of the 400 block of Glen Avenue, Lake Bluff, was arrested around 7 p.m. on March 1 following a traffic stop near East Witchwood Lane at Vincent Court. An officer reported pulling her over after noticing her driving with no headlights. Police said she admitted having multiple drinks, and officers found empty canned cocktails on her floorboard. Witt produced a breath sample indicating a breath alcohol concentration of 0.137 following her arrest, officers reported, and was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater. She was also issued a no lights when required citation.
Vadym Karpenko, 30, of the 27W500 block of Lincoln Avenue, Winfield, was arrested around 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 28 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident following an investigation into a hit-and-run traffic crash at Route 41 and Route 60. Police found Karpenko and his heavily damaged Toyota SUV on the shoulder of Route 41, identified him as the driver who left the scene of the crash and found he appeared to be drunk. He later produced a sample indicating his breath alcohol concentration was 0.15, nearly twice the legal limit for intoxication.

Dashward Henderson, 24, of the 4200 block of Gregory Drive, Zion, was arrested around 2 a.m. on March 7 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following an investigation into a three-car crash at Route 41 and Deerpath Road. Police determined he was intoxicated when he struck two other cars on Route 41. He was also issued citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol.
Mehrdad Bamshad, 59, of the 600 block of Prestwick Lane, Wheeling, was arrested around noon on March 13 on a DuPage County warrant connected to a failure to appear in court on a 2019 charge of driving with an expired license and operating a motor vehicle while using an electronic communications device.

Davion M. Brown, 24, of the 3300 block of Patricia Lane, Park City, was arrested around 6:45 a.m. on March 19 on Route 60 near Route 41 after police got a call of a person slumped over the wheel in a turn lane. They found Brown unconscious behind the wheel with the engine running, woke him up and smelled the strong odor of cannabis. Following field sobriety tests, Brown was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, attempted unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver. Officers also reported finding a woman's identification and multiple fake $100 bills in his possession.
