LAKE FOREST, IL — The following information comes from Lake Forest and Lake Bluff police and Lake County court records as a record of those arrested by police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt, and criminal charges, which represent merely accusations by the state, are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Circuit Clerk of Courts. All persons named are innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

ARRESTS

Steven R. Chuk, 32, of the 500 block of Everett Road, Lake Forest, was arrested around 4:30 p.m. on May 17 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and without a valid license following a traffic stop near the intersection of Rockland and Shagbark roads. Officers noticed him commit traffic violations and determined he was impaired following field sobriety tests. Chuk refused to submit to a drug test voluntarily.

Corey C. Strong, 33, of the 5200 block of Plum Drive, Indianapolis, was arrested on May 18 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater and leaving the scene of an accident after crashing into an SUV near Route 41 and Old Elm Road, fleeing a traffic stop in Highland Park and hiding in his pickup at the Skokie Lagoons in Winnetka. Strong provided a breath sample indicating his breath alcohol concentration was 0.117, nearly one and a half times the legal limit. He was also issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol.

Cordero Gladney, 34, of the 700 block of North Pioneer Road, Waukegan, was arrested around 2 a.m. May 22 and charged with driving under the influence, driving under the influence with breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater and aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol with a license suspended for a DUI arrest and felony possession of between 30 and 500 grams of cannabis with the intent to deliver after police pulled him over driving 80 mph on Route 41. Officers reported admitted drinking before getting behind the wheel, showed signs of being intoxicated, appeared unable to directly answer simple questions and provided a breath at the station indicating his breath alcohol concentration was 0.175 — more than twice the legal limit.

Candido Bocanegra-Hernandez, 51, of the 6300 block of 30th Street in Kenosha, Wisconsin, was arrested around 8:15 p.m. on May 22 near the intersection of Illinois and Wildwoods roads after officers got a call of someone asleep behind the wheel. Police reported finding him passed out behind the wheel of a Honda facing the wrong way with its engine running. After officers woke him up and turned off the car for him, he explained he had no driver's license and may have had 11 beers. Following some field sobriety testing, police determined he was intoxicated and arrested him. He was later charged with two counts of DUI and driving without a license and cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Testing conducted at Lake Forest Hospital indicated his blood alcohol concentration was 0.222, nearly three times the legal limit.

Edwin Fernando Mendez, 26, of the 300 block of Euclid Avenue, Highwood, was arrested around 2:45 a.m. on June 5 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police were called to the area of Route 41 and Westleigh Road for a report of a possibly intoxicated motorist attempting to change his tire. Officers reported smelling alcohol on his breath and finding parts of his car strewn around the road that suggested he had driven off the road. Mendez admitted drinking beers before driving and was taken into custody.

Juan Francisco Mendez, 40, of the 800 block of Maple Lane, Wheeling, was arrested around 12:15 a.m. on June 12 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after a traffic stop near Westleigh Road and Stable Lane. Officers reported his breath smelled like alcohol and there was an open 24-pack of beer in the back seat, an open beer bottle in the center console and five empties on the floorboard. He was taken into custody following field sobriety tests.


Note: No arrests have been reported in Lake Bluff since March 1.
