'Involuntarily Vomiting' Man Drove 112 MPH Down Route 41: Blotter
Passenger in drunken driver's car rushed to hospital; motorist faces charge after eating marijuana before driving: Lake Forest Blotter

LAKE FOREST, IL — The following information comes from Lake Forest and Lake Bluff police and Lake County court records as a record of those arrested by police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt, and criminal charges, which represent merely accusations by the state, are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Circuit Clerk of Courts. All persons named are innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
ARRESTS
Oseas T. Avelino, 25, of the 1500 block of McDaniels Avenue, Highland Park, was arrested around 12:15 a.m. on April 13 following a traffic stop on Green Bay Road at Linden Avenue. Police reported smelling booze on his breath after pulling him over for speeding. Following field sobriety tests, officers arrested him on suspicion of drunken driving and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration and driving with a suspended license after he produced a breath sample indicating he had more than two and half times the legal limit of alcohol in his system. Police also noticed open containers of alcohol in Avelino's car and issued him citations for illegal transportation of alcohol, no vehicle insurance and speeding 59 mph in a 30 mph zone.
Elio W. Esquivel, 20, of the 2600 block of West Potomac Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 12:45 a.m. on April 15 following a traffic stop on Route 41. Officers reported Esquivel was driving 112 mph in a Hyundai when he was pulled over. Esquivel admitted he did no have a license or any form of identification, and police asked him to step out of the car to place him under arrest for driving without a valid license. Officers smelled booze and burnt cannabis on Esquivel, who was sweating heavily and began vomiting involuntarily during the traffic stop, according to police. Officers called paramedics to check him out, but Esquivel declined further treatment. Police reported finding a half-full bottle of Hennessey, open alcohol in the center console, a bag of cannabis an various pieces of drug paraphernalia. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a suspended license, possession of between 30 and 100 grams of cannabis and speeding more than 35 mph above the limit.

Craig C. Gordon, 27, of the 1400 block of Hervey Avenue, North Chicago, was arrested around 3 a.m. on April 16 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and possession of an open container of cannabis by a driver following a traffic stop on Sheridan and Woodland roads. Officers pulled him over for an unspecified reason and noticed he appeared to be impaired. Police reported they asked Gordon to undergo field sobriety testing after he admitted smoking marijuana and eating edible cannabis before driving. Officers determined he was impaired and took him into custody, also charging him with possession of 70 grams of cannabis found in his car. Records show Gordon was on probation following a guilty plea last year to a cannabis charge.
Malissa C. Maisonet, 32, of the 1400 block of Seymore Avenue, North Chicago, was arrested around 2 a.m. on April 18 following a traffic stop on Route 41 at Westleigh Road. Police reported a radar check determined she was driving 96 mph in the 55 mph zone. Maisonet appeared to be impaired while speaking with officers and admitting drinking beer at a bowling alley before driving, police reported. Following some field sobriety tests, she was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. She was also issued citations for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol, driving without insurance and speeding. A female passenger in the car was taken to Lake Forest Hospital after officers determined she was in danger due to extreme intoxication. Police said the passengers blood-alcohol concentration was later found to 0.50, which is six times the legal limit for intoxication.

Zachary I. Dubofsky, 24, of the 2500 block of Pebbleford Lane, Glenview, turned himself in on April 20 to face a class 1 felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving death in connection with the Nov. 12, 2020, collision between a pickup truck and a pedestrian in the 500 block of North Mayflower Road that left a 62-year-old Lake Forest man dead. An investigation determined Dubofsky was driving the truck at the time and prosecutors approved a felony charge. Read more...
Jose R. Santiago, 27, of the 3700 block of West Wilson Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 5:30 a.m. on April 25 after police were called to Route 41 and Deerpath Road for a 911 call about a silver Lexus or GMC driving all over the road southbound through Lake Bluff. Police reported they pulled over a GMC after noticing it commit lane violations and noticed an open can of beer in the center console and the smell of alcohol on the breath of the driver, who admitting having a "few beers" before driving. Following some field sobriety tests, officers arrested Santiago and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater and driving with a suspended license. He was also issued citations for no vehicle insurance and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol.
