Lake Forest Woman Killed By Metra Train: Authorities

A 73-year-old woman was identified as the pedestrian fatally struck by northbound train Wednesday night near Western Avenue in Lake Forest.

LAKE FOREST, IL — Detectives from the Lake Forest Police Department, Metra Police Department and Lake County Coroner's Office staff are investigating the death of a woman who was fatally struck by a train Wednesday, police said.

Shortly after 8 p.m., police and fire personnel were dispatched to a report of a pedestrian hit by a Metra train on an area of the tracks near Western and Laurel avenue, according to statements from Lake Forest police and the coroner's office.

Claire Osborn, 73, of Lake Forest, was found dead adjacent to the tracks. It appeared she had been fatally struck by a northbound train, authorities said.

The coroner's office conducted an autopsy Thursday and announced the preliminary results indicate Osborn's death was caused by severe blunt trauma.

The manner of her death remains under investigation.

According to Metra, train movement on the Union Pacific North Line was halted for more than two hours Wednesday night, with extensive delays throughout the night.
