Learn About Lake Forest's Ravines

What do you know about Lake Forest’s ravines?

The ravines will be the topic of discussion from 7-8:30 p.m. Oct. 17 when the city continues its community forum series at the Gorton Community Center.

Randy Tack, Third Ward alderman, and a panel of experts will lead a conversation about “Ravines: Ecological Treasures, Essential Community Assets.”

There are more than 13 miles of ravines in Lake Forest and almost all of them are privately owned. Protecting and caring for them preserves the character of the city’s neighborhoods protects its drainage system and water source and maintains local property values, the city said in a press release.

Residents who attend the forum will learn about the ravines, what is threatening them and the roles and responsibilities of individual homeowners and the city. 

The forum will also explore:

• What opportunities or challenges this topic presents for homeowners and the community?
• What additional conversations or resources are desired?

The meeting will not be televised, and no decisions will be made. The purpose is to collectively develop an enhanced clarity of each issue, its intricacies, and a consensus on how to proceed.
