What we CAN guarantee is that beginning March 3rd, Lincoln’s legacy will be celebrated via an exhibition, lecture and live performance all at the History Center of Lake Forest-Lake Bluff.

On Sunday, March 3rd at 3pm James Cornelius, author and historian at the Abraham Lincoln Association and past curator of the Lincoln Collection at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield will discuss “The Obvious and the Oddities of our 16th President,” including his family life. Cornelius has written and edited several books on American and British history, with an in-depth focus on Lincoln. Most recently, he co-authored the 48-page Official Commemorative Guide to the Presidential Museum and oversaw publication and introduced Gettysburg Replies, a showcase of original short essays by 100 famous people about Lincoln and the war.

Coinciding with Cornelius’s lecture, the History Center will open a new Lincoln exhibit, “A Man of His Time, A Man for All Time.” This exhibition traces Abraham Lincoln’s path from a self-educated, rough-hewn lawyer with virtually no administrative experience, to the president who guided a divided nation through the crises of slavery, secession and Civil War. By presenting Lincoln’s own words in speeches, letters and proclamations, the exhibit encourages a deeper understanding of the 16th president’s life, accomplishments and legacy.

On Saturday, March 16 at 10am, Lincoln lovers young and old alike will have the opportunity to “Meet the Lincolns” at the History Center. This not-to-miss, nationally-acclaimed live performance includes many personal stories as Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln reflect on the people and events that influenced their youth, education, work, struggles of the Civil War, and their lives in Springfield and Washington, D.C. Children and students may attend for free!
