Man Charged With Murdering Ex-Girlfriend As She Ran Away
A woman from Peoria was fatally shot outside a North Chicago apartment complex Monday. A former romantic partner is charged in her killing.

WAUKEGAN, IL — Prosecutors charged a Lake County man with first-degree murder Tuesday, a day after he was arrested in North Chicago at the scene of the fatal shooting of his former girlfriend, authorities said.
Glenda Cramer-Cayson, 47, was identified as the victim. According to the Lake County Coroner's Office, Cramer-Cayson was originally from Peoria. Most recently, she lived in the apartment complex where she was killed.
Shortly after 6:30 p.m. Monday, police were dispatched to a report of gunfire at the Prairie View apartment complex on the first block of Prairie View Court in North Chicago.

Officers arrived to find a woman who had been shot multiple times, according to Lake County Major Crimes Task Force spokesperson Sgt. Chris Covelli. She was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she was pronounced dead later that evening.
Montreal Porter, 48, another resident of the Prairie View apartments, was immediately taken into custody by North Chicago police on suspicion of the shooting, and the major crimes task force was called in to assist the investigation.

Prosecutors reviewed the facts of the case and approved one count of first-degree murder Monday.
The investigation found that Porter and Cramer-Cayson had broken up after having previously dated, according to a statement from Covelli.
Then on Monday evening, Cramer-Cayson tried to run away during an argument.
"She ran outside the apartment complex and fell down," the spokesperson said. "Porter then shot the victim multiple times."

At an initial court appearance Tuesday, Porter was ordered held at Lake County Jail unless he provides $300,000 in cash to secure his release ahead of trial.
Investigators do not believe anyone else was involved in the shooting.
