No Buyer Yet for Lake Forest Home that Inspired Gatsby Estate

The original owner's daughter is thought to be F. Scott Fitzgerald's great unrequited love.

A 7,400-square-foot Howard Van Doren Shaw-designed Lake Forest estate remains on the market for $16.5, nearly a year after being listed.

The home, according to its listing, was designed for Charles Garfield King, whose daughter, Genevra, is thought to be F. Scott Fitzgerald’s great unrequited love. The estate is therefore thought to have been what Fitzgerald used to conjure up the estate in the Great Gatsby.

The home, built in 1920, sits on 45 acres, which can be subdivided. As of Monday, it had been listed on Zillow for 356 days.
