Passenger Dead, 4 Injured In Rollover Crash On Interstate 94: ISP

Two people were ejected from a car in the high-speed collision Sunday in Lake Forest, state police said.

LAKE FOREST, IL — One man died and several others were injured in a rollover traffic crash Sunday on Interstate 94, police said. The force of the crash ejected two men from from a car, while two others were trapped and needed to be extricated by rescuers.

Around 12:45 p.m., Rafael Perez, 25, of Berkeley, was driving a white 2020 Toyota Camry on outbound Interstate 94 north of Half Day Road across two lanes of the road at high speeds, according to Illinois State Police.

State police said Perez lost control for some reason and crashed into a blue 2013 Honda CRV being driven by a 43-year-old Chicago woman with a 50-year-old man and 16-year-old girl as her passengers.

The Toyota rolled over several times before coming to a rest on the left shoulder. Perez and one of his passengers, a 21-year-old Kewanee man, were tossed from the Camry, state police said.

The Kewanee man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released. Perez remained hospitalized Monday.

Another passenger, an 18-year-old Addison woman, was found trapped in the car, state police said. She was extricated by rescuers from the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District and taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

From the other involved vehicle, the driver and younger passenger of the Honda were taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to state police.

Police said all outbound lanes were closed for an investigation of the crash for more than four hours Sunday afternoon between Route 22 and Everett Road. No charges or citations had been filed as of Monday morning.
