Road Worker Fatally Struck By Dump Truck In Lake Forest Work Zone

Investigators believe the truck ran over the worker while backing up during road construction early Tuesday on southbound Route 41.

LAKE FOREST, IL — A dump truck fatally struck a construction worker Tuesday in Lake Forest, police said. Shortly after midnight, emergency personnel from Lake Forest and Highland Park arrived at the scene of an accident involving a road worker in a work zone around Route 41 and Old Elm Road. Arriving officers found a person who appeared to have been struck by a dump truck as it was backing up while working on road construction, according to police. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Laura Casey, 56, of Antioch, was identified as the victim, according to the Lake County Coroner's Office. The preliminary results of an autopsy Wednesday showed she died from multiple crushing injuries. All lanes of southbound Route 41 were closed for several hours Tuesday morning. Authorities said the incident is being investigated by the Lake Forest Police Department along with the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team and the coroner's office.
