Senior Housing Project Taking Shape at 43 and Atkinson
The Sheridan at Green Oaks will provide more than 200 units and more than 100 jobs.
A 206-unit senior housing community is planned for the corner of Waukegan Rd. and Atkinson Ave. in Green Oaks, not far from Lake Bluff.
Groundbreaking was held for The Sheridan at Green Oaks earlier this month. The Senior Lifestyle Corporation project is scheduled to open in 2017 with 78 independent-living and 64 assisted-living apartments homes in addition to 64 memory care residences in 2017. The development will bring more than 100 jobs to the local community during the 18-month construction period and nearly 100 more positions once the retirement community is complete.
Residents of the community will have access to 50,000 square feet of common space with dining rooms, multi-purpose great rooms, fitness centers, an art studio and other amenities, according to a Senior Lifestyle news release.

“What makes the Sheridan Collection so special is that it offers the latest from a care, design and amenity perspective while incorporating a warm and nurturing environment – all while backed with the expertise in operations from a veteran in senior living,” said Matthew Phillips, executive vice president of development for Senior Lifestyle Corporation. “We have worked to bring this concept to market for three and a half years and are excited to bring residents and potential residents offerings tailored for this community.”
The project is the first to break ground as part of the Green Oaks TIF district established in November 2014. While the total project will cover approximately 39 acres at 29330 N. Waukegan Road, seven acres will remain undeveloped in a conservancy. The senior residences will occupy 22 acres, with nine acres remaining for other commercial uses.

“Some of the goals of the TIF District are to eliminate blight and redevelopment properties,” according to Ken Marabella, President of Marabella Associates, Inc and TIF Administrator for the village of Green Oaks. “This project accomplishes those goals and then some.”
