Sexton House Denied Landmark Status; Will Be Demolished
Village board vote allows for transfer of Center St. property to developer who wishes to build two homes.

The Lake Bluff home that served as the summer retreat for Civil War hero James Sexton will not be awarded landmark status, village trustees decided by a 4-2 vote Thursday.
The Lake Forester reports passionate pleas from both David and Cynthia Brunjes of Lake Forest expressed that David’s parents, the owners of the home at 400 E. Center St., need to sell the property to a developer who plans to demolish the 1800s-era structure and build two new homes on the double lot “so they can live the life they are accustomed to.”
Had the village approved the request for landmark status, the process to have the home demolished would have been delayed for at least four months.
