Students Learn how Seeds Travel at Mellody Farms Field Trip
2nd graders learned that seeds can travel through air, water, by 'hitch-hiking' a ride on an organism, or by being digested by an animal.

The following is from Lake Forest School District 67:
During this hands-on, interactive program at Mellody Farms Nature Preserve in Lake Forest, second grade students from Cherokee, Everett, and Sheridan Schools discovered the amazing ways seeds travel. Students learned that seeds travel in one of four ways: through water, traveling through air, “hitch-hiking” a ride on an organism, or passing through the body of an animal that has digested it.
While walking in the prairie, students found “postcards” left behind by three adventurous seed travelers. Explorative activities and games helped students better understand the amazing diversity of seeds and how their unique characteristics help them in their travels to eventually become a plant. Staff from Lake Forest Open Lands and school community volunteers led this field trip.
