Volunteers To Collect Drive-Thru Donations For Local Food Bank

A no-contact food drive for the Northern Illinois Food Bank is scheduled for Thursday at the Lake County Administrative Building.

WAUKEGAN, IL — Volunteers wearing masks and gloves will collect non-perishable items Thursday at the Lake County courthouse in a drive-thru food drive organized by local government agencies. From 11 a.m. to 1 pm., donors need only to open their trunks to help supply the Northern Illinois Food Bank location in Park City.

"No one should go hungry during the COVID-19 pandemic. With school closures, job disruptions, and health risks, our Lake County residents are some of the millions of Americans who are turning to food banks for support," 19th Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Diane Winter said, announcing the event.

After volunteers donning protective equipment collect donations from trunks, staff from the Lake County facilities division will deliver donations to the north suburban center of the Northern Illinois Food Bank at 440 Keller Drive in Park City. The nonprofit serves a 13-county area and, in a normal year, provides food to more than 500,000 people through a network of hundreds of pantries.
