Waukegan Man Charged with Striking an Officer
A 34-year-old Waukegan man was arrested for striking an officer while he was in the process of being arrested for stealing copper gutters in Lake Forest on April 25.

A 34-year-old Waukegan man was arrested for striking an officer while he was in the process of being arrested for stealing copper gutters in Lake Forest on April 25.
Police went to a home on Knollwood Drive in response to a report of someone possibly stealing copper gutters off of the house on April 25. They found Nicholas E. Kanvik in the yard of the house. He immediately fled on foot from police but was caught after a brief foot chase, according to police.

Officers located several lengths of copper gutter in Kanvik’s pickup truck as well as a saw and bolt cutters. Kanvik admitted to stealing the gutters so he could scrap them for cash, according to police.
While being processed at the station, Kanvik grew upset at being
detained for a bond hearing and struck an officer, according to a police report. He was later transported to Lake County Jail and remanded on a $50,000 bond.
