The home was originally build for the family of Donald McLennan, the insurance pioneer and co-founder of the firm Marsh & McLennon. It was purchased by the billionaire heir Bill Wrigley, Jr. for $9.9 million in 2003. Wrigley listed it for $16 million in 2009.

The home was publicly listed March 14 for $8 million. According to the Lake County Assessor, the property's estimated market value is $7.2 million.
The most expensive home purchased in Lake Forest since 2005 was sold last October for $6.4 million, when a hedge fund magnate, through a trust, purchased an eight-bedroom Onwentsia Road mansion built for the chairman of a retail inventory liquidation company.
The listing price is the second highest listing in Lake Forest after the Schweppes Mansion, which has been on the market since 2011. Also known as Mayflower Place, that property currently listed for $9.5 million.
