19th District Cops Look for Pair Who Committed 7 Armed Robberies

Investigators in the Chicago Police Department's 19th District are searching for two men who they say embarked on a string of armed robberies.

Police are asking residents for help finding the men behind a handful of local armed robberies in which the culprits approach victims in streets or alleys.

All seven incidents were reported between July 21 and Aug. 22 in the Chicago Police Department's 19th District. The district provides police protection on Chicago's north side, from Lawrence Avenue on the north, Fullerton Avenue on the south, the Chicago River on the west and Lake Michigan on the east.

Six of the incidents happened in little more than a week from each other, and officers notified residents about the string of dangerous crimes. But now police think the same duo may have done it again on Aug. 22, this time on the 1700 block of West Cullom Avenue.

In all incidents, two offenders have robbed victims at gunpoint for their wallets, money and cell phones. Police say they strike in the late evening and early morning hours.

Police say the men are either Black or Hispanic and between the ages of 18 and 35 years old. In two of the seven cases, victims said one of the men had a shaved or bald head.

"In each incident, the offenders are seen exiting a vehicle prior to the armed robbery or seen leaving in a vehicle," police said. "Vehicle descriptions vary but include a red two-door Toyota; a beige sedan; and a black Chevrolet."

The following are the time and date of the reported incidents:

  • At 1:05 a.m. July 21 in the 1500 block of West Altgeld Street.
  • July 21 at 1:15 a.m. in the 1500 block of West George Street.
  • July 27 at 11 p.m. in the 1300 block of West Grace Street.

  • Aug. 22 at 10:45 p.m. in the 1700 block of West Cullom Avenue.
Police say residents should report any suspicious people or vehicles in the area; tell neighbors about the crimes; note loiterers and call the police; dial 911 and provide detailed descriptions of offenders, including vehicle information.

Those with information about the above incidents should call the Bureau of Detectives — Area North at 312-744-8263.
