Book Store Near Wrigley Field to Close in October

Bookworks plans to increase their online presence after closing brick-and-mortar store on Clark Street.

CHICAGO, IL - The days of hitting up a bookstore before or after a Cubs game could soon be over.

Bookworks, a longtime staple at 3444 N. Clark St. in Wrigleyville, will close its doors on October 15 in order to put a heavier focus on their online book sales, Crain’s reported this week.

Co-owners Bob Roschke and Ronda Pilon have been known for selling used, rare books, records and CDs.

The growth of online book sales was just one of the reasons Roschke mentioned in deciding to put an end to the brick-and-mortar shop. He told Crain’s an “altered neighborhood” and rising rent costs played a factor as well.

The neighborhood has changed from being on the verge of turning into an area for Japanese American citizens to a hotbed for bars.

“It seems like every space that has gone for rent has eventually become a bar,” he said.
