Boy Seriously Injured After Falling Through Grate In Lake View
A boy and his grandfather were rescued from a hole in the ground Monday evening in the Lakeview neighborhood.

CHICAGO — A 5-year-old boy was seriously injured after he fell through a grate into a utility hole Monday in Lake View, police said. The boy's grandfather went in to help the child and both had to be rescued from the hole in the 400 block of West Briar Place, authorities said.
The grate gave way when the boy was standing on it, and the child fell onto rebar, Chicago Fire Department officials said. The child's grandfather tried to pull him out, but became stuck himself.
The 5-year-old suffered a wound to his abdomen and was taken to Lurie Children's Hospital in serious condition, officials said. The grandfather was not injured.
