Carbon Monoxide Leak Forces Evacuation of Lake View Senior Home

A home for low-income seniors was swarmed by firefighters Wednesday night after high levels of carbon monoxide was detected in the building, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Roughly five fire trucks joined multiple ambulances and police officers around 9:30 p.m. at the Britton Budd Apartments at 501 W. Surf St. Chicago Fire Department officials say they evacuated the third floor of the building.

The building’s carbon monoxide reading was 100 parts per million, officials told the Tribune. However, minutes after evacuating the building, no injuries were reported.

The Britton Budd Apartments are a part of the Chicago Housing Authority, offering 173 affordable housing units for low-income seniors aged 62 and older.
