Center on Halsted Observes Gay Men’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day
The LGBT community center is offering free walk-in rapid testing and support services to recognize the national day of awareness.

Lake View’s Center on Halsted is taking a stand against HIV and AIDS Friday by offering up free walk-in rapid testing and support services.
It’s a part of the government’s National Gay Men’s HIV and AIDS Awareness Day in an attempt to cut down on the rising number of cases each year. Located in Boystown at 3656 N. Halsted St., the free services will run from 5 p.m. to midnight.
According to the Center for Disease Control, “gay and bisexual men of all races continue to be the risk group most severely affected by HIV. CDC’s most recent data show that between 2008 and 2010, the number of new infections among MSM (men who have sex with men) increased 12 percent, with an even steeper increase among the youngest MSM.”
