Cubs Fans Celebrate Home Opener: Photo Gallery, Videos
Patch was live outside Wrigley Field as Cubs fans gathered before the big game.
CHICAGO, IL — A sea of fans proudly donning Cubby blue surrounded Wrigley Field Tuesday, waiting to get inside for the home opener. Fortunately, the sky was blue as well, unlike Monday's dark, snowy weather, which forced the Cubs to postpone their game until the next day. Fans of all ages came from far and wide to cheer on the Cubs and celebrate the new baseball season.
The weather was a bit chilly, but nothing a thick Cubs blanket, a Cubs hoodie and perhaps a beer or two couldn't take care of. By the end of the game the temperature had dropped to around 44 degrees — but at least it wasn't snowing freezing-cold slush like it was on Monday.
Dozens of Chicago police cars and officers on horses surrounded Wrigley, and security personnel directed traffic away from the blocked-off pedestrian areas.
