Cubs Fund New Community Baseball Diamond In Noble Square

A representative with Cubs Charities said 'Everybody In' means making Chicago a "better place."

CHICAGO, IL — The Cubs Charities Diamond Project has helped to fund another baseball field revamp in Chicago. Community groups, local leaders and softball players of all ages came together on Saturday for a ribbon cutting at Eckhart Park in Noble Square. Ald. Walter Burnett (27th) attended the celebration, along with the Chicago Park District, LISC Chicago and Friends of Eckhart Park.

The Cubs donated $20,000 to the new diamond as part of its $5.7 million campaign to fund capital improvement projects, youth programs and new sports equipment across Chicago.

"This year the Cubs' campaign theme is 'Everybody In'. I can't think of a more fitting theme for today because 'Everybody In' extends beyond the Cubs organization and includes all of us working to make the Chicago community a better place," said Jennifer Nowak with Cubs Charities. "Thank you to everyone here for being 'In'!"

The Eckhart Park Advisory Council also invested $20,000 for the new Eckhart Park diamond and the Chicago Park District invested $5,000.

"The renovated baseball field at Eckhart Park is yet another great example of how private, public and non-profit partnerships can benefit communities," said Arthur Richardson with the Chicago Park District.

"Thanks to the Chicago Cubs, LISC, and Friends of Eckhart Park, Eckhart now has a newly renovated softball field just in time for the summer season. The renovated field insures that children can learn the fundamentals of softball on a safe field."

Earlier this month, Cubs Charities and community groups celebrated a baseball diamond renovation in Garfield Park.
