Dangerous Swimming Conditions Through Saturday

The National Weather Service is warning beach-goers to stay out of the water through Saturday because of strong rip currents and high waves.

Anyone hitting Chicago’s beaches before Saturday better stay out of the water, because the National Weather Service has issued a new statement about the hazardous conditions.

The “Beach Hazards Statement” is in effect from Thursday through early Saturday morning, with the NWS citing “high wave action,” “strong rip currents,” and “strong structural currents.”

"High waves and gusty winds will lead to dangerous swimming conditions at Lake Michigan beaches," it reads.

Friday's high temperature is predicted to be 64 degrees, with Saturday seeing a high of 68.

Residents should especially stay away from swimming near piers, sandbars or breakwalls where currents are expected to be strongest.
